AUSTRALIANS have given nearly $1 million to three separate Red Cross disaster appeals, with two thirds of the money going to victims of the Pacific tsunami.
Of the three appeals launched by the Australian Red Cross – aiding victims of the Indonesian earthquake, the Pacific tsunami and Typhoon Ketsana – the Pacific Tsunami Appeal has been far and away the most successful.
It has raised $625,000 thus far, compared with the $193,000 and $93,000 raised for the Indonesia Earthquake Appeal and the appeal for Typhoon Ketsana, which killed hundreds of people in the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia.
