Autumn rains in Australia

Thousands stranded in floods around Coffs Harbour

MORE than 2700 people were trapped and hundreds more, including busloads of schoolchildren, were stranded by rising flood waters around Coffs Harbour and Bellingen last night after rain inundated the Mid-North Coast yesterday.

Coffs Harbour had more than its monthly average rainfall in just a few hours, with fears the rising water levels would surpass the 1996 floods that devastated the area.
